Police are investigating whether a minibus driver was trying to speed through a red light after a fatal crash with a tour bus in Kowloon City yesterday.

The minibus, carrying about 10 passengers, spun nearly a full circle, ran a short distance and broke through railings after the collision at the intersection of Junction Road and Nga Tsin Wai Road at about 7.30am. It came to a stop when it crashed into a shop's roller-shutter.

The minibus driver, Wong Ho-ming, 51, sustained cuts to the forehead and was found semi-conscious at the wheel.

He was declared dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital at 8.53am.

"We are investigating whether he suffered internal bleeding after hitting the wheel or whether his liver illness caused this," a police officer said.

Wong was a liver patient and had suffered internal bleeding in 2009.

A 64-year-old male passenger suffered minor head injuries.
