Fok dynasty welcomes little champ

Olympic diving queen Guo Jingjing and Kenneth Fok Kai-kong yesterday welcomed their first child into the world - a boy, and the first of the next generation of the billionaire family.

"The son of myself and Jingjing was born this morning, weighing 3.3kg. Both mother and child are well and healthy," Fok wrote in a microblog.

"The smooth arrival of this little life makes us feel very happy, and fills our family with incomparable joy," added the 33-year-old grandson of late tycoon Henry Fok Ying-tung. The new father also thanked staff at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital for their care.

Guo, 31, shares the world record for the most Olympic medals won by a woman diver - six. The couple dated for seven years before marrying last November. It was one of the city's most extravagant weddings and cost HK$15 million.

Fok's father, Hong Kong Olympic chief and former Legislative Council member Timothy Fok Tsun-ting, paid his new grandson a visit in hospital and described him as a "big boy".

"He has a lot of hair," added a smiling Fok senior, dressed in a striped pink shirt with a rose-coloured tie - the usual congratulatory colour for Chinese.

He said he had had a long wait to become a grandfather. His mission now would be to give the baby a name. "It will be used for his whole life, so I've got to be careful - though I have had some ideas already."

After taking their formal wedding vows at the family residence in Pok Fu Lam last year, the newlyweds welcomed guests at a lavish banquet at the family-owned Nansha Grand Hotel.

Nansha , in Guangdong province, was developed as a leisure centre by Henry Fok.

The Foks own many profitable businesses, including a golf course, a luxury resort hotel and a marina.

They held another banquet at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
