Teen shot with stun gun, raped and kept in cupboard in To Kwa Wan flat
Interior designer jailed after girl, 19, held captive. Her cries for help raised alarm after 30 hours
A sadistic interior designer who kept a nightclub hostess captive for 30 hours, raped her and attacked her with a stun gun was jailed for nine years and four months yesterday.
Michael Kwan Chun-chung, 30, blindfolded, tied up and chained his 19-year-old victim before shutting her in a wardrobe. He also put a dog collar on her and stuffed her mouth with her underwear.
Kwan had earlier pleaded guilty in the Court of First Instance to false imprisonment, indecent assault, rape, attempt to cause grievous bodily harm and keeping two stun guns without a licence.
"The defendant imprisoned the victim for a very long time … He raped her without using any protection. He also struck her with a stun gun. This was torturing her mind and her body," Mr Justice Louis Tong Po-sun said.
"I know even without obtaining a report that the victim would suffer trauma given that the defendant used such a method to derive his sexual gratification. Attacking the victim with a stun gun would cause her immense fear. It is fortunate that something even worse did not happen to the victim," the judge said.
The court heard that Kwan met the victim in a Tsim Sha Tsui nightclub in 2011. In July that year, she moved into a To Kwa Wan flat owned by one of Kwan's relatives after the designer said she could live in it rent-free.
On August 30, Kwan asked the victim to meet him at the flat saying he needed to fix the toilet. There, he bound her hands and legs and sealed her mouth and eyes with tape. He also stuffed her underwear into her mouth.
He then used a stun gun on her thigh, rendering her helpless. He later bundled her into a wardrobe, locked the door and left the flat, the court heard.
The following day, Kwan returned and told the victim he would give her HK$100,000 once he released her in a week's time. He then raped her without using a condom. That night he connected the stun gun to the handcuff, chain and collar he had put on the victim and administered seven shocks, the court heard.
Police rescued the girl after neighbours heard her cries for help and raised the alarm. A psychological report found that Kwan had sadistic tendencies. It said the likelihood that he would reoffend was moderate to high.
