Ocean Park chief Allan Zeman hopes for box office hit with Ethan Hawke movie

Ocean Park chief Allan Zeman is hoping for success at the box office this autumn with his new production - an American action thriller starring Hollywood celebrities Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez. It opened in Los Angeles on Monday.

Zeman heads Sweetpea Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based television and movie production company, and has been involved with nearly 10 movies, including Dungeons and Dragons, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt and An American Haunting, since 2000.

The upcoming thriller Getaway features Brent Magna, played by Hawke, whose wife is kidnapped. Magna gets behind the wheel of a Shelby Mustang Super Snake and follows a mysterious man's orders to save his wife.

He commandeers the car of an anonymous, computer-savvy woman and takes her on a high-speed race against time.

Over the years the Lan Kwai Fong Group businessman, who once said he "can't count" all his businesses, has been at the centre of the action with a series of high-profile, profit-making ventures radiating from Hong Kong.

These have ranged from the fashion business, to Lan Kwai Fong's restaurant-and-bar scene and film production companies to holiday resorts in Thailand and an entertainment complex in Shanghai.

Earlier, Zeman told magazine Variety that he came on board to back the film for a simple reason: "The popularity of Nascar is worldwide."

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (Nascar) is a family-owned and -operated business venture that runs multiple racing sports events.

The 88-day shoot, which took place mostly in Sofia, Bulgaria, used 130 cars and, naturally, involved many car chases.

Getaway goes on general release in America on Saturday.
