School is heads above others in Operation Santa Claus fundraiser
It was a case of the more the merrier when it came to Santa hats this month, as schoolchildren across the city tried to squeeze as many people as possible, all wearing Santa hats, into a photo.
And the winner was … Tak Nga Secondary School, with their photo featuring no less than 68 pupils, all in hats. For their efforts, the girls' school in Sham Shui Po won Christmas hampers chock-full of festive goodies, provided by the Sino Group of Hotels.
The contest was organised by Operation Santa Claus, with schools able to choose any day from December 2 to 17 as "Santa Hat Day". Pupils donated at least HK$10 to take part, and shared their photos on Instagram.
Tak Nga also held a race - with teachers and pupils flipping pancakes in a pan as they went. It was a HK$30 donation to enter, and anyone who dropped their pancake had to start again. The school raised more than HK$5,870 from the day.
Also taking part in the Santa hat contest were Diocesan Boys' School's secondary division, with 21 pupils in hats; Canadian International School with 39; and a Mui Wo playgroup, Stay & Play by Mummy Made This, with 26.
Operation Santa Claus, jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and RTHK, is an annual charity drive funding charitable projects to help the needy in Hong Kong and on the mainland.
