Commuters are starting their journeys to work early on Tuesday as main roads in Kowloon and on Hong Kong Island remain closed amid ongoing pro-democracy protests.

Public transport services in Wan Chai, Central and Western districts are expected to be further burdened when more children return to school in the morning.

Classes at all primary schools in these districts resume on Tuesday, a day after classes in secondary schools resumed there. Kindergartens remain closed.

The special service Citybus Route 40M will operate from 6am to 6pm between Pokfield Road Bus Terminus and Central.

The MTR has reminded passengers in a statement to spare more time for their journeys as "there will be more passengers than usual."

Like on Monday, trains will run more frequently starting from 7.15am, the subway operator said. The corporation said train services would be increased throughout the day if necessary.
