Pro-democracy media veteran attacked in car ambush

Veteran media entrepreneur and pro-democracy chat-show host Stephen Shiu Yeuk-yuen has accused triads of being behind an ambush early yesterday during which the car he was in was rammed before a man smashed the windscreen with a metal bar.
Shiu's silver seven-seater was rammed by two cars shortly after midnight as it left the Quarry Bay studio where he had just finished hosting a radio show.
A man leapt from one car and smashed the windscreen before the attackers fled. A stolen car with false licence plates was found on fire in Sha Tin about 20 minutes later.
"I am sure I have no quarrels with anyone over anything, be it money or women ... This has to do with what I said," said Shiu, 66, who founded popular online radio station Meme Hong Kong, known for its pro-democracy stance. "This is how the triads typically get things done," he said of the burning car.
After the attack outside an office building on Shipyard Lane, Shiu reported the case at a police station in Sai Wan Ho. No arrest has been made so far.
Earlier this week, Shiu spoke on the main stage at the Occupy protest area in Admiralty, calling on protesters to experiment with new ways of protest such as laying siege to the Legislative Council building every Friday when the Finance Committee meets.
