Hong Kong student arrested in Taipei over murder of 70-year-old landlord

A student from Hong Kong studying at a university in Taipei has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 70-year-old landlord.
Police found the victim’s body in a rolled up mattress that had been left in the corridor of an apartment block, news portal Chinatimes.com reported.
They made the grisly discovery when they were called to the building – near the private Chinese Culture University in Yangmingshan, in Shilin District – at about 2pm on Tuesday following reports of a strange smell.
The victim reportedly sustained most of his injuries to his head by blunt strikes particularly the forehead and the back of his head, but a knife wound to his chest was the fatal injury, the report said citing Taipei Police.
The suspect, surnamed Mak, was arrested at a nearby apartment. He reportedly enrolled in the studies of Urban Affairs & Environment Planning but had been expelled from the university.
He was believed to have had an argument with his landlord over outstanding rental payments, according to police.
