Match made in Hong Kong's MTR with proposal on-board train

Hong Kong's MTR trains can be quite crowded, but one man managed to find just enough space amid the Boxing Day rush last night to make Christmas extra special for his girlfriend.

Richard Chou staged a festive flash mob at Sheung Wan station as he proposed to his partner of almost 10 years, Miranda Chen.

Best of all, she said yes.

Chou, a Canadian, spent three months planning the special day. He told his fiancée they were on the way to meet a friend, yet when they boarded the train she found a troupe of singers and dancers onboard. After some festive numbers on the journey along the Island Line and a specially chosen final song, the dancers displayed colourful cards with the words "Marry Me" when they reached Admiralty.

"I'm actually very surprised, I'm surprised he did it now, I thought it would be next year, I thought he'd do it on 10 years," Chen said with a shy smile.

For the moment of the proposal, Chou chose the song Lucky by Jason Mraz. The track had a particular significance because it described a couple's long-distance relationship - Chen has spent the past six months working in Beijing, while Chou stayed home in Toronto.
