Hong Kong's first baby of 2015 proved to be an impatient little girl - arriving 12 days earlier than expected, just four minutes into the new year.

Amie and Ka-ho Chan welcomed their first child into the world at Union Hospital in Tai Wai as fireworks lit up Victoria Harbour.

The happy new parents have yet to come up with Chinese or English names for their daughter, who weighed in at 2.82kg.

"I'm very surprised - it's a very good present," said glowing new mother Amie, as she sat in bed holding her swaddled daughter.

"I believe the baby chose to be born on this day herself," said Amie.
