Video | Foiled! Dashboard camera exposes old man’s bid to scam driver who ‘knocked him down’

An elderly man who appeared to launch an audacious bid to persuade passers-by he had been knocked down by a careless driver had his plan foiled by a dashboard camera.

Clutching a bag under his arm and seeming to be engrossed in something on his mobile phone, the supposed victim was caught by the camera throwing himself to the ground as the car edged up to him.

It is believed the man, with dyed red hair, was trying to scam money by claiming he had been injured.

The 58-second clip, which was uploaded to Facebook by the poster Ken Ken, was viewed more than 845,000 times within 24 hours of being posted.

It begins with the man wandering aimlessly in the middle of the road towards a car that is edging very slowly towards him. When the car gets close enough the man feigns a look of shock and falls backwards, adopting a pose that suggests he has been knocked down.

But the driver soon puts him in his place, getting out of his car and saying: "This uncle put on a show. A camera has captured everything. This uncle is staging a show."

Another voice, believed to be a passer-by adds: "I saw, you fell by yourself. You are feigning", before the driver says: "Here is a witness, here is a witness. I caught you doing it."

As the video comes to an end the sheepish red-head stands up in front of the blue Toyota, seemingly unhurt and heads off.

Users flocked to post their comments on the man's thespian talents.

One, naming himself Patrick Wat, posted: "Uncle, I give you a like. Your acting is not poor. If you could add some ketchup it would be like real."
