Truck smashes into taxi causing it to plough into two students on a Hong Kong crossing

Two Baptist University students were injured, one severely, after being knocked down on a Kowloon Tong road on Thursday night.

Two Baptist University students were injured, one severely, after being knocked down on a Kowloon Tong road on Thursday night.

The man, 19, and woman, 20, were crossing at the junction of Waterloo Road and Hereford Road at 9.15pm when a truck failed to stop and crashed into the back of a taxi, causing it to plough into the students.

The woman was left trapped under the left rear wheel of the truck and needed to be freed by firemen.

Both were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Yau Ma Tei. The man was conscious while the woman required resuscitation.

The taxi driver, 57, and a female passenger, 54, sustained minor injuries and were also taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The truck driver told police his brakes had failed. His vehicle was towed away by police.

The 63-year-old truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
