Bad weather delays several flights from Hong Kong to Shanghai

Dozens of Hong Kong-to-Shanghai flights were delayed or cancelled yesterday because of bad weather.

Dozens of Hong Kong-to-Shanghai flights were delayed or cancelled yesterday because of bad weather.

The Airport Authority said that up to 8pm, seven flights from Hong Kong to Shanghai Pudong Airport had been cancelled and another 46 delayed.

A further seven Hong Kong-Shanghai Hongqiao flights were also delayed.

Passengers transiting in Hong Kong to other locations also complained of delays affecting their trip-planning.

"We were stuck at the airport on our way to Hong Kong, and then stuck on the plane at the Hong Kong airport," said passenger Leung Yu-ming, who was flying from Guangzhou to Vancouver, Canada, changing flights in Hong Kong.

Leung said the plane was stuck on the ground for more than an hour, causing at least seven passengers on his flight to miss their connecting flight to Vancouver on Friday.

Leung said they were promised a flight yesterday, which was delayed twice, meaning he was still stuck at the airport last night.

The Civil Aviation Department said Hong Kong had been notified of mainland airports' tighter air-traffic-control policies, which were mainly due to bad weather affecting the area.

Hong Kong was hit by an onslaught of rainstorms throughout yesterday, with the latest thunderstorm warning starting at 10.30pm.
