Passengers to get extra 10kg on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair flights

New policy will apply to tickets issued or exchanged on or after September 15

Cathay Pacific and its sister airline Dragonair have expanded their luggage limit for travellers of all classes, with both now offering an additional 10kg allowance for check-in baggage.

The new policy will apply to tickets issued or exchanged on or after September 15, meaning holidaymakers with a tendency to over pack will soon enjoy lower excess baggage charges than before.

Dragonair will also increase its carry-on baggage allowance, which is currently 5kg, to match that of Cathay Pacific.

The move to revise its weight system policy was motivated by a desire to “benefit passengers”, according to a spokesman for the airlines, who believed it would appeal to travellers.

To speed up the check-in process and whittle down queues, the airlines are also reviewing their baggage policy so that passengers are encouraged to have fewer pieces of luggage. A “weight system with piece count,” will mean passengers can save money if they check in fewer bags.

This is the second move by the airlines to enhance baggage allowances, with a policy change in July that allowed musicians to carry larger instruments on board.
