Ocean Park is offering an additional 20,000 discounted tickets after it had to put a stop to online sales on the first day that HK$40 tickets were on offer.

The park said it was extending the visit period by five days to January 27.

The normal price for an adult ticket is HK$438.

Hong Kong residents were initially allowed to buy up to four tickets for a specific day in the period from January 16-22, making a total of 28,000 tickets on offer based on a quota of 4,000 tickets for each day.

The offer was made to celebrate the park’s 40th anniversary.

More than 30,000 people queued up on the theme park’s official website from 4pm on Wednesday to buy the tickets, which prompted the operator to shut the purchase system 20 minutes after it opened.

“Due to an overwhelming response, the waiting time may be more than 30 minutes, new requests for ticket purchase will be suspended,” was the way the park put it on its official website.

It later announced that another 20,000 tickets would go on sale from 4pm on Thursday due to overwhelming demand.

Normal ticket sales were not affected.
