Hong Kong’s impressive soccer performances at the Asian World Cup qualifiers have captured the imagination of the city as the team puts in some memorable and resilient performances.
The qualifiers have galvanised Hongkongers, who have rallied around the team, after seeing coach Kim Pan-gon’s side – ranked 151 in the world by Fifa – record home victories over Bhutan and the Maldives before holding China to a scoreless draw in Shenzhen last week.

With all 6,600 tickets for last night’s game against Qatar at Mong Kok Stadium sold out, fans sought out alternatives to watch the game, as even neutral supporters came off the fence to back the home side.
