Hong Kong man killed in Thailand motorbike crash

Companion, thought to be his girlfriend, being treated in hospital after accident on Ko Samui

A Hong Kong man died on Saturday afternoon in a car crash on the Thailand resort island of Ko Samui, the government has confirmed.

His companion, reportedly his girlfriend, badly hurt her head and other parts of her body. By Sunday afternoon, she was being treated at a local hospital.

The Immigration Department said in a statement it had been in touch with the pair’s relatives, some of whom will be flying to Thailand on Sunday afternoon. Two Hong Kong immigration officers planned to accompany them to offer assistance.

The two Hongkongers, both reportedly 22, were riding a motorbike at around 5pm on Saturday near Lamai Viewpoint before the crash.

According to an online photo, apparently taken at the scene, the one man and one woman were lying on the ground beside a smashed-up motocycle. The man’s head was covered with blood.

The man was later confirmed dead by one of his relatives after he was sent to the hospital, the Immigration Department said.

It is understood the deceased man had been visiting his girlfriend, who was interning at a hotel complex in Thailand.
