Two killed, one injured in fiery car crash in Hong Kong’s New Territories
Witnesses reported hearing explosions from the incident near Fanling Wai
Two men died and a third was seriously injured when a car crashed and burst into flames in the New Territories just before midnight on Tuesday.
The driver lost control of the car as it was heading down Jockey Club Road towards Sheung Shui. The vehicle crashed into a road divider, then slammed against a railing before careening back onto the road near Fanling Wai.
The blaze began at the rear of the vehicle but quickly engulfed the whole car.
Witnesses nearby reported hearing explosions.
Two bodies were found in the front and rear passenger seats. Investigators are trying to confirm whether the man in front was a passenger or the driver who had tried to escape from the passenger side.
One of the occupants managed to escape with injuries to his neck and back. He was taken conscious to North District Hospital.
Firefighters spent about 10 minutes putting out the flames. Police and the Fire Services Department are investigating.
