14 hurt as tram topples over outside HSBC headquarters in Hong Kong’s Central district
Fourteen people were injured when a westbound tram toppled over in Central around midnight on Thursday.
The driver, who had more than a year of experience, was said to have lost control of the vehicle, which fell on its left side on Des Voeux Road Central near Bank Street outside the HSBC headquarters.
Eleven of those injured were conscious when they were taken to Queen Mary and Ruttonjee hospitals.
Three of them did not need hospital treatment.
They are said to have suffered minor injuries.
Police officers and firemen rushed to the scene to help the injured people.
Police confirmed the tram driver had passed a breathalyser test and was not under the influence of alcohol when driving .
Authorities removed the tram from the tracks several hours later.
