Hong Kong was hit by heavy downpours yesterday, triggering floods on the roads and prompting the Observatory to issue the first red rainstorm warning signal of the year.

The bad weather was felt across the city, especially in Sai Kung, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan and Tai Po, from around noon. A total daily rainfall of 150mm to 500mm was recorded in those districts.

Authorities received several reports of flooding in the New Territories and the landslip warning had to be issued. There were also reports of trees falling during the storm.

After hours of torrent, the rainstorm warning was cancelled at 3am this morning.
