Hong Kong burns agency executive steps down over Taipei fireball criticism

Stanley Cheung Yun-hang has decided to step down as vice-chairperson of the Hong Kong Burns Association in the wake of criticism that he exploited for his own personal gain a recent tragedy involving a fireball at a park in Taiwan.
He said he felt unable to continue in the role while his reputation was coming under attack as he did not want to see the organisation’s image further tarnished.
“Some netisens have even boycotted our fundraising efforts,” he told local media on Saturday.
“I feel that I no longer possess the ability to lead the organisation.”
Cheung has taken flak over the so-called “party powder” explosion at a water park in New Taipei City on June 27, when a large volume of flammable powder exploded in the air, killing two Taiwanese and injuring over 500 people.
