T8 warning for Hong Kong downgraded to T3: stock exchange suspends trade all day, Typhoon Nida moves across southern China
Strong gales and heavy rains batter city and cause flight chaos, with 114 trees blown over

The Hong Kong Observatory downgraded its typhoon warning from No 8 to No 3 at Tuesday lunchtime, marking the return to calmer conditions after Typhoon Nida brushed the city overnight.
Nida weakened further to a tropical storm, moving in a west-northwestly direction across Guangdong province.
The first T8 typhoon this year, which brought the city to a halt, dumped 100mm of rain across the city and even 200mm across Lantau Island. In Ngong Ping, on Lantau, sustained wind speeds were recorded at 94km/h, along with maximum speeds of 122 km/h by 10am.
Despite the lessened wind and rain danger, trading at the Hong Kong stock exchange was suspended all day.
