17 hurt as Hong Kong minibus crashes and overturns

Seventeen people were injured, two seriously, on Saturday night when a minibus crashed in Tseung Kwan O.

The No 13 green minibus was on Po Lam Road North heading to Kwun Tong after leaving Haven of Hope Hospital when it apparently lost power and overturned.

“The passengers had already left the minibus when we arrived at the scene. No one was trapped inside,” said Peter Lam Yau-wing, assistant fire services divisional officer from Po Lam.

Six fire trucks and 14 ambulances were sent to the scene. The driver was fitted with a breathing aid as he was lifted into an ambulance.

The injured were taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, United Christian Hospital in Sau Mau Ping and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment.

Police and fire officers were looking into the cause of the incident.
