Man found dead in bus at Hong Kong terminus, believed to have been in the vehicle overnight
- The deceased, believed to have been in his 50s, was found on the upper level of the double-decker 36B bus in Tsuen Wan
- A driver at the terminus says ambulance personnel estimated the man had been dead for at least 10 hours by the time he was discovered
A man was found dead in a bus at a terminus in Hong Kong on Saturday, and it was believed his body remained in the vehicle overnight to no one’s notice.
Police received a report at around 12pm on Saturday and found the passenger, believed to have been in his 50s, inside a 36B double-decker at Lei Muk Shue Bus Terminus in Tsuen Wan.
A bus driver who was at the terminus when the body was found said a cleaner discovered the deceased on a seat in the middle of the double-decker’s upper level. The man’s body gave way after a light tap.
According to the bus driver, ambulance personnel said the man had been dead for at least 10 hours by the time he was discovered.
“He had died in the bus by the last trip yesterday and remained in the vehicle overnight and throughout the morning without anyone realising,” the driver said. “The drivers did not carry out checks of the vehicle.”
Hong Kong’s largest bus operator adds new electric vehicles to fleet
The 36B service, operated by KMB, runs from 5.30am to 11.40pm from Lei Muk Shue to Jordan, and from 6.25am to 12.40am in the reverse direction.
According to a KMB staff member, bus drivers, as well as cleaning staff, are required to check vehicles after the last trip of the day to ensure all passengers alight.
KMB said it would cooperate with police investigations.
