An unemployed woman who swindled more than 40 victims out of HK$4.57 million by claiming she could help them buy discounted smartphones and concert tickets was jailed for two years and eight months yesterday.
Yeung Shun-yi, also known as Florence Yeung Mi-yan, pleaded guilty to nine counts of fraud before deputy judge Raymond Wong Kwok-fai.
Describing the offences as "well-planned", Wong said: "The defendant gained trust from the victims by helping them purchase discounted items in the first place."
But when they placed more orders, Yeung pocketed their money and never delivered the goods, Wong said.
The District Court heard previously that the 46-year-old deceived customers out of HK$4.57 million between August and December 2012 while on court bail for another fraud case. In that case, she was jailed for two years and four months in 2013.
In the latest case, two victims who ran their own online businesses bought discounted tickets for local comedian Dayo Wong Chi-wah's talk show through Yeung.
