A 50-year-old Hong Kong man threw furniture, a burning metal tray and hot water from the window of his public housing flat during a stand-off with police in the early hours of this morning.
The man tossed items including a wooden cabinet, broken furniture and a hair dryer then allegedly attacked officers with an iron bar after they broke down the door of the 27th floor flat at Kwai Leung House on the Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate.
“One police officer had his front tooth broken and the other policeman suffered minor hand injuries in the incident,” a police spokeswoman said.

She said the suspect was also injured on the head, arms and legs.
All the wounded were taken to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong for treatment.
Shortly after 5.30am, police received a call from the man who claimed that someone had died, according to police. Officers were sent to his flat to investigate.
“When police arrived, the man refused to open his door. He became agitated and started hurling items out of window,” the police spokeswoman said.
The items were scattered on the walkway and flower bed outside the building. No one was hit by the falling objects, police said.
The two-hour confrontation ended when a firefighter broke through the front door and police rushed into the flat and arrested the man.
“He was accused of attacking officers with an iron bar before he was eventually overpowered,” a police source said.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of assaulting police officers and allowing objects to fall from a height.
It is understood the man lives alone in the flat.
The spokeswoman said no dead body or injured person were found inside the flat. She said the man had no record of mental illness.
Detectives from the Sau Mau Ping police station are investigating.
In March, a piece of luggage, a fire extinguisher, a Spider-Man toy and a rucksack containing thousands of yuan in cash were among items hurled from the window of a guesthouse in Mong Kok, disrupting rush-hour traffic. Police arrested a woman visitor from mainland China in connection with the case.
