A red Ferrari suffered extensive damage to its the rear when it burst into flames in Happy Valley today.

The sports car, bought in 1999, was being driven from Happy Valley to a car company in Repulse Bay for inspection when the blaze broke out at about 1.45pm.

A police spokeswoman said the left rear of the car suddenly burst into flames, as the car reached the junction of Tai Hang Road and Wong Nai Chung Gap Road.

The driver, a 39-year-old man, got out immediately. He is understood to be a staff member of the car company.

The Fire Services Department deployed two fire engines and an ambulance to the scene.
