Hong Kong man arrested at bank after he used another person’s missing identity card to seek home loans
Police say the man applied for two loans totalling more than HK$6 million; they also found other identity cards, tax documents and phone cards

A man was arrested in a Yau Ma Tei bank on suspicion of using another person’s identity card to apply for home loans totaling more than HK$6 million.
The 58-year-old identity card holder called the police earlier this year when a finance company called him to confirm an application for a home loan of HK$5.5 million that he had never applied for.

He told police he had lost his wallet carrying the identity card in January.
During an investigation, officers detected another application for a home loan of HK$840,000 from a bank using the same identity card.
The 45-year-old suspect was arrested by officers after he was asked to go to the bank on Nathan Road to handle some procedures on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers found the 58-year-old man’s identity card on him and a suspected fake taxation document.
The man was escorted to his home in Wo Muk House in Lei Cheng Uk Estate, Cheung Sha Wan, for a search.
