A man was arrested in a Yau Ma Tei bank on suspicion of using another person’s identity card to apply for home loans totaling more than HK$6 million.

The 58-year-old identity card holder called the police earlier this year when a finance company called him to confirm an application for a home loan of HK$5.5 million that he had never applied for.

During an investigation, officers detected another application for a home loan of HK$840,000 from a bank using the same identity card.

The 45-year-old suspect was arrested by officers after he was asked to go to the bank on Nathan Road to handle some procedures on Tuesday afternoon.
