Watch your back, Lam Wing-kee: Hong Kong police discuss safety with bookseller as protection considered
In third meeting with force this week, Lam reminded of ‘things he needs to be aware of’ after his claims implicating mainland authorities, lawmaker says
Hong Kong police have reminded bookseller Lam Wing-kee to look after his safety in the city, as the force is considering offering protection to the man who made explosive revelations about how he was abducted while crossing the mainland border last year.
Speaking after a two-hour meeting with the police on Thursday, Democratic Party lawmaker James To Kun-sun, who accompanied Lam to the meeting, said the force had “reminded” the bookseller to look after his personal safety in Hong Kong.
To said police had “reminded Lam of things he needs to be aware of”.
“There was also discussion about defensive matters,” he added, declining to elaborate.
Lam said police were considering offering him protection. But he said no in-depth discussions took place as to what kinds of protections the force could offer.
