Four arrested in Hong Kong over fake HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes
Police seize 41 suspected counterfeit bills in North Point and Tuen Mun
Four people have been arrested in connection with the discovery of 41 suspected fake banknotes.
Police first stopped a 28-year-old man on King’s Road near Tin Chong Street in North Point on Tuesday, and seized seven counterfeit HK$500 bills.
Further investigation led officers to North Point and Tuen Mun, where 25 counterfeit HK$1,000 notes and nine counterfeit HK$500 notes were recovered.
Two more men and a woman, aged 25 to 64, were arrested.
All four were later released on bail and must report back in the middle of next month.
The suspected fake notes, said to be of low quality and produced by ordinary printers, will be examined.
Investigators are looking into whether they are connected to some fake HK$500 notes received by shops and a cabbie in North Point over the weekend.
