Defendant accused of breaking into Repulse Bay flat still sporting bandage
An unemployed two-way permit holder accused of robbing a British banker and his wife of more than HK$50,000 in cash and valuables from their Repulse Bay flat this week was remanded in custody by a Hong Kong court.
Ye Hong, 36, was not required to make a plea on one count of robbery at his first court appearance before magistrate Jason Wan Siu-ming at Eastern Court on Wednesday.
Prosecutors alleged the Sichuan resident, still sporting a bandage on his forehead, broke into the flat of Giles Richard Winstone Scott and Natalia Marianna Scott at Villa Helvetia on Repulse Bay Road on Monday.
Among the valuables he purportedly stole were a pair of gold earrings valued at HK$15,000, a gold necklace with a butterfly-shaped pendant valued at HK$10,000, and an iPhone 6 Plus valued at HK$7,888.
He was also said to have robbed the pair of HK$3,000 in cash and other currencies including Swiss francs, South African rand and North Korean won.
The total value of what was taken exceeded HK$50,000.
Ye said through an interpreter that he understood the robbery charge. He did not apply for bail.
The case is to return to court on September 21, pending legal advice.
