Two dead in car collision with container truck at Sha Tin

The area had also been the site of two other fatal crashes in the last two years

Two men died when their car collided into a container truck in Sha Tin.

The 33-year-old driver and the 27-year-old passenger were confirmed dead at the scene after firemen freed their bodies from the wreckage. The crash occurred along Tai Po Road near Keng Hau Road at about 7.50pm on Thursday.

The collision occurred round a bend when the Kowloon-bound Honda Civic Type R lost control and swerved out of its lane into an oncoming truck.

The force of the collision had flung crash debris into bushes on a nearby slope.

The truck driver was uninjured, and passed a breathalyser test.

Police are investigating.

Traffic on both sides of Tai Po Road came to a standstill.

The area had been the site of two other fatal crashes in the past two years. On December 9, a 20-year-old Water Supplies Department worker was killed when his car collided head-on with a double-decker bus. He died in hospital from his injuries.

Eight people on the bus were injured.

On October 5, 2014, a 22-year-old man died after losing control of his car, which also ran into a double-decker bus on the opposite lane.
