All dressed up and nowhere to go: man in female clothes and wig arrested over high heels theft
The 33-year-old Hongkonger reportedly stole from a neighbour on the same floor; residents say they have seen him on previous occasions in women’s clothing
A man in a dress and wig was arrested over the theft of a pair of high-heeled shoes in an industrial building at Kwun Tong in the early hours of Wednesday, according to police.
The 33-year-old Hongkonger was wearing a white dress and a long-haired wig at the time of his arrest in Mai Gar Industrial Building on Wai Yip Street, police said.
The theft happened shortly after a 25-year-old woman, who reportedly uses a unit on the first floor, returned and left a pair of high-heeled shoes outside her door at about 12.30am on Wednesday.
Her neighbour came back minutes later to find a man wearing female clothing wandering outside her unit, a police source said.
According to the source, the neighbour shouted and alerted the woman after the suspect grabbed her pair of shoes and ran off. The pair gave chase and stopped the man at the rear staircase. Police were then called in.
The man was handed over to officers who arrested him in connection with the theft.
The source said the suspect also lives in one of the units on the first floor of the same building.
The hooded and handcuffed man was still wearing a white dress and a pair of sports shoes when he was escorted into a police van outside the building. Officers also seized the wig.
The pair of shoes was thrown to the ground during the pursuit, and recovered along the corridor, according to police. “[People] had sometimes seen the man wearing female clothing in the building previously,” the source said.
After being questioned for more than 12 hours, the suspect was released on bail in the afternoon.
Detectives from the Kwun Tong police station are investigating.
