Hong Kong woman dies after being hit by minibus
Yau Ma Tei accident is city’s third fatal crash in four days
An elderly woman died after a minibus hit her in Yau Ma Tei on Wednesday morning, the third fatal crash in the city in four days.
She was trying to cross Shanghai Street near the junction with Man Ming Lane at 9.41am when the accident happened.
“The elderly woman suffered head injuries and was taken unconscious to Kwong Wah Hospital,” a police spokeswoman said.
The victim was certified dead at about 10am.
The driver of the green-topped minibus assisted with police inquiries at the scene before being taken to Hung Hom police station.
On Tuesday a lorry driver, 46, died after his vehicle rammed into the back of a truck which stopped after a tyre burst on Yuen Long Highway, Tuen Mun.
And on Sunday, a motorcyclist, 41, died after his bike slammed into a barrier on Tolo Highway, Tai Po, shortly after 4.45pm.
Police figures show 73 people died in 70 fatal traffic accidents in the first eight months of this year. Eighty people died in 79 accidents in the same period last year.
