Stabbed Hong Kong man who had money dispute dies soon after taxi ride to hospital
Police classify case as murder and arrest man whom victim was said to have visited in Tai Po prior to stabbing
A 22-year-old Hong Kong man with a serious stab wound to his chest died Saturday afternoon shortly after he took a taxi to hospital, police said.
A 41-year-old man surnamed Leung was arrested later in the day on Wai Yan Street in Tai Po in suspected connection with the case as a fruit knife was seized at a nearby unit.
Li Suk-yee, chief crime inspector for New Territories North regional headquarters, said initial investigation showed the deceased man, surnamed So, visited Leung on Saturday morning.
So met Leung, whom Li said had a triad background, at a unit where Leung was staying on Kwong Fuk Road, also in Tai Po. The pair had a dispute over money matters.
Li said So was stabbed by an edged tool, leaving him with a wound on the left side of his chest.
So took a taxi to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po and was admitted in an unconscious state. He was certified dead at 12.34pm Saturday.
Police have classified the case as a murder. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
