Man arrested over indecent assault of 13-year-old at Hong Kong public hospital
Alleged incident follows similar allegations against four men in another public hospital
Police arrested a mentally disabled patient on Monday on suspicion of indecently assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a public hospital in Hong Kong.
The alleged incident – the second such case in public hospitals this month – happened at United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong. The suspect and the victim were mentally disabled patients at the hospital.
The case came to light when the victim’s family made a police report on January 4, claiming the boy was indecently assaulted at the hospital.
“The boy was believed to have been indecently assaulted by a 42-year-old man in hospital on December 15, 2016,” a police report said, without naming the hospital.
Officers from the Sau Mau Ping district crime squad were asked to investigate.
After a two-week investigation, police arrested the 42-year-old on Monday.
Officers said on Tuesday afternoon that the suspect was being held for questioning and had not been charged. He was under police guard, having been moved to Kowloon Hospital, Kowloon City, which had recently been the scene of a separate but similar alleged incident.
After a week-long probe, police arrested the four men aged between 38 and 56 in connection with the case on Thursday and Friday last week. Officers later released the four on bail, pending further investigation.
Police figures show reports of indecent assault dropped by 6.7 per cent to 839 in the first 10 months of 2016 from 899 in the same period of 2015.
