Hong Kong woman dies after bicycle crashes into tree on Maclehose Trail

Retired social worker, 57, was riding with husband and friends in Yuen Long

A Hong Kong cyclist died on Sunday after she crashed into a tree while riding downhill in Tai Lam Country Park.

The victim, a 57-year-old retired social worker from Taipo, was biking with her husband and several friends in Yuen Long.

At about 2.35pm, as they were headed downhill on a path on Maclehose Trail near Kat Hing Bridge, the woman, who was at the back of the group, was heard yelling: “Can’t stop it!”

She hit a tree on the left side of the path and was thrown to the ground.

The victim’s husband called for an ambulance, which took her to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long, where she died at 3.37pm.

All the cyclists were wearing helmets during the trip.

The Special Investigation Team from the police traffic unit in New Territories North is on the case. Anyone who saw the accident is urged to contact the investigators at 3661 3800.
