Boy, 12, in hospital after being knocked unconscious by bicycle in Hong Kong country park

Cyclist escaped with minor shoulder injury

A 12-year-old boy is in hospital after being knocked unconscious by a bicycle in a Hong Kong country park on Monday.

The incident happened on the Bride’s Pool Nature Trail in Plover Cove Country Park, Tai Po at about 11.30am.

“Initial information showed the boy, aged 12, was injured in the head and lost consciousness,” a police spokeswoman said. The male cyclist suffered a light shoulder injury.

Both were taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for treatment.

Police are treating the case as a traffic accident. The spokeswoman said officers were investigating the cause of the incident.

According to official statistics, 83 people died in 87 road traffic accidents across the city in the first nine months of this year. In the whole of last year, 129 people died in 132 traffic accidents.
