The first annual protest since the Occupy protests started from the Victoria Park in Causeway Bay on Wednesday. Thousands of people of varying political views gathered in the park in 35 degree heat.

Several scuffles broke out before the protest began during the curtain raising ceremony held in Golden Bauhinia Square. About ten protesters, including Lawmaker Leung Kwok-hung, aka Long Hair, rallied outside the square, one social activist Koo Sze-yiu burned a HKSAR flag. The activist was later arrested by the police.

In this gallery, SCMP photographers follow the protesters to capture all the action from the park to the government offices.
