A man drowned during a boat trip in waters off Hong Kong’s Sai Kung on Sunday, prompting a police investigation.
The victim, 59, boarded a leisure boat with some companions from a Sai Kung pier at around 9am.
The vessel then moored to the south of Tiu Chung Chau, or Jin Island, where the man went for a swim with others in the group.
But he was later seen getting into difficulties. The group managed to pull him out of the water and called for help at around 3.15pm.
He was airlifted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan and resuscitated by medical staff. But despite the efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4.08pm.
Police were investigating the cause of the incident, a spokesman said.
Fatal incidents during outdoor activities in the summer are not uncommon in the city.
