Girl in Alpine shooting comes out of coma

ANNECY, France - A seven-year-old British girl who survived but was seriously wounded in a French Alps shooting came out of an artificial coma yesterday, while her younger sister returned to Britain, a French prosecutor said. "The little girl has come out of the artificial coma but she is under sedation and her speech is not yet audible," Annecy prosecutor Eric Maillaud said. Zainab was put in a state of artificial coma to allow her to recover. AFP

Training for Prince Harry in Afghanistan

LONDON - Britain's Prince Harry is finishing his first phase of initial training at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. The 27-year-old army captain arrived in Afghanistan for his second tour there on Friday but will not start flying Apache helicopter missions for at least another week. Yesterday, he was expected to complete a two-day course in first aid, shooting and roadside-bomb awareness. AP

Bolivian leaders weds in ancient setting

LA PAZ - Bolivia's vice-president and his bride chose for their Saturday nuptials a temple of stone walls that the ancient Aymara people constructed 3,000 years ago to observe the heavens. The ceremony uniting 49-year-old Alvaro Garcia with Claudia Fernandez, a 25-year-old journalist, was held at an ancestral site honouring the Pachamama, or Mother Earth, at Tiwanaku, 70 kilometres west of La Paz.
