Designer Simon Gao Yang has presented his new collection as the last show of London Fashion Week, spotlighting a growing interest in Chinese fashion.

Gao, 32, is one of the hottest young designers in China, having created his SIMONGAO brand in 2012. Gao unveiled his autumn and winter collections during the show on Tuesday night.

More Chinese students are learning fashion and design in Britain. London Fashion Week is really a good platform for new Chinese designers

Paying tribute to oriental wisdom and world civilizations, Gao's collections employed a range of materials including fur, wool, cashmere, cotton and silk.

"Yang is good at combining the oriental culture with the Western. In his designs this time, I can feel some Chinese elements, though it's not apparent. He also added some western elements and his own style into his design," said Li Dangqi, chairman of the China Fashion Association, after watching the show.

"Chinese fashion has entered the stage of 'created in China' from 'made in China' with the reforms and opening. An increasing number of Chinese fashion brands and enterprises have been seen rising, as have young Chinese designers," said Xiang Xiaowei of the cultural section at the Chinese embassy in Britain.

"More Chinese students are learning fashion and design in Britain, and more Chinese designers partook of the event. London Fashion Week is really a good platform for new Chinese designers," he added.

British rock star Rochelle Humes, rap singer Tinie Tempah and television presenter Zoe Hardman also attended the show on Tuesday.
