Israel kills nine Hamas members in retaliation for Gaza rocket attacks

Air strikes come in retaliation for a sharp surge in rockets being fired from the Gaza Strip

Israeli air strikes killed seven Hamas members early yesterday, the Islamist group's armed wing said, making it their highest single death toll since a 2012 cross-border conflict.

Israeli military authorities confirmed the strikes, saying they "responded to rocket attacks against southern Israel", targeting known "terror" sites and concealed rocket launchers.

Hamas said the strikes were launched at a gathering point for its members in Gaza's southern-most town of Rafah, at the Egyptian border.

The group said six were killed in a single location, while a seventh died in a bombing shortly after midnight. It said that in all, nine Palestinian militants died in Israeli air strikes overnight.

Hamas' military wing said "the enemy will pay a tremendous price".

The Israeli attacks followed rocket strikes at Israel from Gaza, where Hamas is the dominant force. The Israeli military said there had been more than 150 since mid-June, including about 20 on Sunday alone.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to his cabinet on Sunday "to do whatever is necessary" to restore quiet to southern Israeli communities.

Netanyahu also cautioned against any rush toward wider confrontation with the group, whose arsenal includes long-range rockets that could reach Israel's business capital, Tel Aviv.

However, far-right members of Netanyahu's cabinet have pushed for a stronger response to the rocket fire that has disrupted life for many Israelis living in the southern region, where air raid sirens regularly send them running for shelter.

Yesterday's fatalities were the single largest toll for Hamas since Israel's campaign in late 2012 launched to halt rocket fire at its towns. In that eight-day campaign, 180 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed.

Continued - I have been watching for these things for decades and now they are on us. I wrote a book that discusses some of the prophecies written about in the Bible. It’s a short read of 6 or 7 pages and it’s totally free. I hope you will have a look: ****www.booksie.com/religion_and_spirituality/book/richard_b_barnes/after-the-rapture-whats-next
This escalation is much more troubling than those of previous confrontations in the last 10 years. It is more so because Israel as we know is surrounded by Arab peoples that hate them and right now most of them have been fighting desperate battles within their own borders. The need to invade Gaza is not something that I would argue; at 60 rockets in one day ground forces will likely have to be deployed to stop it. My fear is that a military campaign may get ugly and may give another of Israel’s enemies the bad Idea of attempting to point the finger at Israel and as irrational as it may be, swing the fighting of their own countries into a new war against Israel. Making this about Israel has long been a tactic of Israel’s enemies and with ISIS, Assad, the Syrian rebels, Iraqi shite’s and Iran all having wars within their borders and all trying to get other Arabs to join them in their “common” cause, this is just a bad time to have an invasion into Gaza. Yet, what else can Israel do? I pray for peace and look on, but what I see are obvious end time events taking place day by day. I believe these are the end times the Bible teaches about. I believe that today’s world wide wars and events will escalate to a point that we are going to face a new world economic and political order. Soon an agreement of 7 (360 day) years will be made with the nations who hate Israel. That agreement will be viewed as evil in God’s eyes and has been foretold. I have been watching for these t
