Social media were buzzing with the lighter side of US President Donald Trump’s first Easter egg roll, where First Lady Melania Trump nudged him to appropriate behaviour during the US national anthem.

Trump, the first lady and their son, Barron, appeared at the event to welcome guests at the traditional holiday event.

But as the national anthem began, the Slovenian-born First Lady had to give her husband a nudge, apparently to remind him to put his hand over his heart, as she and Barron already were doing.

The president swiftly adopted the patriotic posture.

The “Star Spangled Banner,” written as a poem by Francis Scott Key and set to a British song by John Stafford Smith, celebrates America’s defeat of British ships in Baltimore harbour in the War of 1812.
