Students from Diocesan Girls' School (DGS) proved too good for their rivals, winning their fourth consecutive girls' team title at the Inter-school Tenpin Bowling Championships.
In the boys' category, St Paul's College were crowned champions again after taking their first title in 2010.
The tournament was held in the Bowling Centre at the South China Athletic Association in So Kon Po last Thursday. A total of 41 teams - 11 girls' teams and 30 boys' - battled it out for honours. Each team comprised three players, with each taking part in three games. The total number of points scored by the players were used to determine the teams' rankings.
Led by Hong Kong national team member Victoria Chan Chee-yan, DGS scored 1,536 points, more than 200 points ahead of second-ranked CCC Ming Kei College. This year, DGS used the same line-up as in the 2010 and 2011 tournaments - Victoria and her teammates, Form Four students Kelly Ho Hau-yue and Katrina Chan Hiu-tung.
Victoria, a Form Five student, has represented DGS for the past four years, and since then her school has dominated the lanes.
'Our target for the day is to win the title,' Victoria said before the tournament. 'Since 2010, the organiser has set up girls' and boys' categories so it is less difficult for us to get a top ranking here because we no longer need to face the boys. However, we still need to play to our full strength. Since Kelly and I are Hong Kong team members, we need to deduct 30 points from our sub-total. So making any big mistakes can cost us the title.'
