A Marine Department officer yesterday inspected Kai Fung No2, the vessel that took activists from Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen to the disputed Diaoyu Islands. The purpose of the inspection is unclear. The department earlier said the owner of the vessel, registered for fishing, could face a fine of up to HK$10,000 for breaching its intended use.

The government would establish a task force to help enact land development projects that are "conducive to the development of Hong Kong", Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said at a charity event.

A taxi driver lost control and crashed into a bus stop in Chatham Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, injuring five people, before careering back onto the road and hitting three other vehicles, police said. The five bystanders, as well as the taxi driver and another motorist, were sent to hospital.
