An activist who allegedly took part in an illegal rally outside the central government's liaison office last year was arrested yesterday, more than 15 months after the incident.
Iris Yau Ka-yue, 21, was detained at the Lo Wu border checkpoint as she tried to leave the city to enter the mainland. She was taken to Ta Kwu Ling police station before being transferred to Western police station. She was later released on bail.
A police spokesman said she was arrested for her part in an unlawful assembly during a public event held in the Western district on April 1 last year.
Yau said she was part of a protest against Leung Chun-ying's victory in the chief executive election when the marchers clashed with police outside the central government's liaison office.
She was also part of the 2011 "Occupy Central" protest, in which dozens of activists pitched tents under the building of the HSBC headquarters in Central.
Police said nine people were involved in the unlawful assembly for which Yau was arrested. They allegedly desecrated the national flag by wilfully burning it during the protest.
