The nourishing and repairing Tea Treatment was developed by Lorena Severi, the gregarious stylist at Hollywood Hair. She worked with a Chinese medicine practitioner and tea specialist from Beijing called Dr Liu on a treatment and specially formulated paste-like mask.
It is my first visit to Hollywood Hair - a busy and well-designed salon in Central with a touch of old Hollywood glamour. Severi, who worked in her native Italy and Australia before moving to Hong Kong, explains that she developed the treatment with the help of her friend.
I'm served a cup of the same Da Hong Pao that is used in the treatment, with some packets to take home to "fully support the body inside and out".
The first step of the treatment involves animal collagen oil applied to the hair. The assistant then brushes on a reddish-brown mineral mask made from the tea, covering my entire head and hair.
The mask, made by mixing the tea with flower oils, animal collagen and tea clay powder, smells pleasant. Severi says it is rich in vitamins A, E and C as well as iron, calcium, sulfur and zinc - a mineral apparently good for shiny hair and sexual function (I'll take her word for it).
My head is wrapped in foil for 10 minutes and I move to the reclining chairs to steam the hair and mask for 15 minutes. While waiting, I am treated to a fantastic shoulder and arm massage.
