Fears that Hong Kong captain Jamie Atkinson would be sidelined for next month's crucial preparations for the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers were allayed yesterday.
Doctors said Atkinson hadn't fractured his left thumb while keeping wicket in his first English County Championship game for Warwickshire last week.
Atkinson sustained a bad knock to his left hand during his debut appearance as Warwickshire defeated Surrey, raising fears he had broken the same thumb he fractured in July of this year.
The 23-year-old has been drafted into the Warwickshire team for the remaining games of the county season after both the county's wicketkeepers were injured.
"Fortunately I got good news from the specialist that I have not broken my left thumb again. I agitated my old fracture which caused the damage," Atkinson said.
"I was keeping in the first innings that Surrey batted and the ball struck me on the end of the left thumb."
