A woman was slashed in the neck when a suspected drugs party turned violent yesterday.
Detectives arrested a 40-year-old man, a friend of the 50-year-old victim, after the attack at a flat in Hai Tan Street, Sham Shui Po, at 7.30am.
Police found drugs paraphernalia and a small amount of methamphetamine, also known as Ice, at the scene.
The woman suffered two cuts to her neck described as potentially life threatening, as well as multiple cuts to her arms and legs. She was last night having surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Police said the two friends arrived at the flat of a 38-year-old woman and her 55-year-old boyfriend before daybreak. Police received an emergency call at 7.30am saying the 40-year-old man had become emotionally unstable and was shouting at and attacking the victim.
Officers found the woman unconscious.
She was taken to Caritas Medical Centre in Sham Shui Po for examination and later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital.
Officers arrested the man and seized a knife at the scene. They also found two home-made tools used for taking Ice and seized a small quantity of the drug.
"Police are investigating whether the suspect was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time of the attack," a police investigator said.
He said police were also investigating whether the flat was a drug den and whether the four had been taking drugs at the party.
The suspect was being held for questioning without charge last night. Crime squad officers from Sham Shui Po are investigating.
The latest figures from the Fight Crime Committee show that 108kg of Ice was seized in the first eight months of this year, an increase of 176 per cent on the 39kg seized in the same period last year.
About 73kg of Ice was seized in the whole of last year, up from 39kg in 2011.
